Drakensberg Canopy Tour through a yeloowwood forest in the Champagne Valley:

Ian and I experienced an amazing couple of hours this morning. We had an awesome canopy tour through a magnificent indigenous forrest. Our guides were very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Our lead guide,  Sthabiso, was also part of the construction team and gave us first-hand information about how the cables and platforms came to be. Our safety guide, Winnie,  was excellent. She made sure that everyone, including the guides were super safe at all times. I was able to look down and see Cape chestnuts in full bloom, a mass of pink flowers.

We saw the waterfall at The grotto way below us and so many trees - yellowwoods, white stinkwoods, cape ash, kiepersols/cabbage trees and lots of monkey ropes. We hearddifferent  birds calling and were fortunate to see little sunbirds and  chats. When we arrived at each of the 12 platforms, Sthabiso would either tell us a story or give us interesting facts about our surrounds. Some of the slides were long and super fast causing us to have an adreneline rush. I was very glad that there was an emergency brake on some  of the slides. I was enjoying the speed so much on a fast slide, that I did not brake hard enough but the emergency brake kicked in and prevented me from crashing onto the platform. The climb out of the forrest was not too long but fairly steep and I must admit to stopping at one point. The guides were very gracious and allowed me to catch my breath before continuing to where the bakkie was waiting for us.When we got back  to base our DVD was showing on a large TV screen and we enjoyed our light lunch while we watched ourselves on the screen. The whole tour was so much fun!
